Team Forms Challenge

Team Forms meets Team Sparring.

Format

For time contraints, Team Forms Challenge will be done in a single elimination format bracket.

Individuals from opposing teams shall compete at the same time if space allows. If the ring space is insufficient for two members, then competitors perform one at a time.

There is a two minute time limit for forms.

Team Size

A team may only have three competiting team members and a team captain. A competiting team member may also be the team captain. Teams may not swap out members for any reason.

Competitors may not be in multiple teams.

There is no restrictions on the composition of the team. However, the composition of the team will determine in which division they are placed in.

  • Teams may be mixed ranks
  • Teams may be mixed sexes
  • Teams may be mixed schools

Competitors may perform any form that they wish.

Divisions

There are only four divisions.

  • Under 12 | Colored Belts
  • Under 12 | Black Belt
  • 12 and over | Colored Belts
  • 12 and over | Black Belt

The division that a team is placed is determined by the highest rank in the team and the oldest age in the team. The rank and age does not have to come from the same individual.

The determination of age shall follow the age determination method of the tournament.

Examples

  1. A team has two white belts that are 8 years old and a single black belt that is 14 years old. The team will compete in the 12 and over | Black Belt division.
  2. A team has an 11 year old black belt and two 13 year old advanced ranks. The team will compete in the 12 and over | Black Belt division.

Scoring

Scoring is a 10 point must system.

Individuals from opposing teams will compete against each other and then recieve points for their team. The winning individual will recieve 10 points for their team. The losing individual will receive less than 10 points for their team.

Scores are determined and delivered to the scorekeeper after the two competitors are dismissed. Scores are not to be given between challenges.

The scores are tallied and publicly announced at the end of the match. The team with the highest score (minus any penalties) wins.

Score Explanation
10-10 Individuals performances are virtually identical. Should nearly never happen.
10-9 Difference between the competitior's performances.
10-8 Significant difference between the competitor's performances.
10-7 An individual was unable to complete their form for any reason. Should be rare.

Judges are not to be swapped in the middle of matches.

Penalties

Penalties are a point deduction towardsfrom each judges score.

The head judge shall inform the teamsother total.judges of the infraction that occured. The judges shall score the match as normal and deduct any points.

  • Black Belts restarting their forms in a challenge.
  • Competitors inadvertantly striking their opponent.
  • Other prohibitied actions for forms also apply for Team Forms Challenge.

Potential Black belts performing non-black belt forms is a penalty.

Example

  • Two black belts compete.
  • Competitor A has to restart, but not Competitor B.
  • The head judges informs the other about the point deductions.
  • The judges will base their scoring on A's new performance.
  • All three judges score the challenge 9-9 for A.

Level Differences

When there is a significant level difference between competitors in a match, score clamping will be in play. If the losing competitor is at least one level lower than the winning competitor, the losing competitor shall receive at least 9 points. However, if the higher level competitor is the loser in the match, then there is no clamp for them.

Tie Breaker

When teams are tied, the score of the last matchchallenge will determine the winning team. If the score of the last matchchallenge is tied, then the teams will select one member each to compete onein a final time.challenge. The competitors may perform the same form or a different one if they choose.

The judges will point towards the winner.winner instead of scoring.

Order of Operations

Bracket has been created.

  1. Competiting teams in round 1 are called.
  2. Teams bow to each other.
  3. Highest seed team (or coin flip winner) decides team member to compete first. Team A for this example.
  4. Opposing team sends their team member to compete. Team B for this example.
  5. Competitors present themselves to the judges. Competitor A.1 is first and then B.1.
  6. Competitors take their positions on the mat. If the mat is not big enough, only one competitor may compete at a time.
  7. Head judges has the competitors begin their performances.
  8. Competitors complete their performances.
  9. Judges score the competitors and submit their scores to the scorekeeper.
  10. Team B sends a competitor first, then Team A and the process repeats.
  11. Team A sends their final competitor, and then Team B. The process repeats for the last time.
  12. Head judge announces the score and the winner or if a form repeat is needed.
  13. Winning team moves forward in the bracket.
  14. Bracket continues until concluded.
