Carryover Double Elimination
Carryover Double Elimination is a modified double elimination bracket where previous head-to-head matches are carried over. The goal is to provide fairer results, avoid unnecessary rematches, and save time.
If two competitors who have previously faced each other are scheduled to meet again, the result of their previous match will carry over automatically. The earlier winner will advance, and no rematch will be performed. This prevents duplicate performances for the same judges and keeps the event moving efficiently.
This bracket is intended to be used for performance divisions (such as Forms or Weapons), where repeating the same routines is unlikely to change outcome.
Double Elimination with no rematches. Previous head-to-head results stand.
Competitor Briefing
This bracket will run as a Carryover Double Elimination. Everyone must lose twice before they’re eliminated. If two competitors who already faced each other meet again, the earlier winner wins again automatically.
Examples
Example 1
In the example above, the competitors in M12 (Match 12) already met in M1. Since Alpha won M1, they win M12 automatically and are moved up the bracket.
Then in M13, Alpha is matched against Delta. They previously met in M7 where Delta won. Delta's win is carried over, and they move to M14.
M14 is a repeat of M11 with Baker winning both matches.
The results is as follows:
- Baker
- Delta
- Alpha
Example 2
In the example above, Alpha and Hotel are scheduled for M1. Alpha wins and moves up the bracket. Hotel goes to the loser's bracket. Hotel then proceeds to win every match in the loser's bracket. Alpha and Hotel meet again in M14. However, since Alpha won over Hotel in M1, their win is carried over.
The results is as follows:
- Alpha
- Hotel
- Baker
Example 3
This example is to illustrate an unlikely, but possible scenario.
In the example above, Hotel loses their first match. They are then moved to the loser's bracket. Alpha is loses M7 and is moved to the loser's bracket. They lose M10 are eliminated. Hotel never faces Alpha and wins the loser's bracket. Hotel then faces Delta in M14 and wins. This is Delta's first loss, but they would be rematched against Hotel. As a result, Hotel's win in M14 is carried over to M15 and Hotel wins the bracket.
The results are as follows:
- Hotel
- Delta
- Baker
