Capture The Flag

Capture the Flag or Flag Sparring is intended for young competitors who are not yet ready for point or continuous sparring at tournaments.

There are two rulesets that Capture the Flag can be done and it will depend on what sparring event you'd want to push them towards.

Equipment

The belts can be commonly found under "flag football belts". It is recommended that the belts used are able to have the flags pulled seperately from the belt. Some models have the flags sewn onto the belt and the entire belt comes off.

Rules

  • Competitors can not grab anything except the flags.
  • Competitors can not grab flags from a downed opponent.
  • A competitor is 'downed' when any body part other than the soles of their feet touches the floor.
  • Competitors must have both feet inside the action area in order for their flag pulls to count.

Point Style

This method is closer to point sparring.

Action is stopped when a competitor grabs a flag and lifts it above their head. First one to perform this action gets the point.

If competitor A and B both pull flags, but competitor A raises it first, then A shall get the point and B shall return their flag to As belt.

Continuous Style

This method is closer to continuous sparring.

Action does not stop.

Best 2 out of 3 with 30s rounds.

The competitor loses when they no longer have all flags, or when they have the least amount of flags at the end of the round.

3 penalties / warnings. On the fourth penalty, they lose the round.
